More Words on Wowwee Roboquads
From The Jetsons to The Robinsons, the trademark of the family of the future has always been the inclusion of a robot companion. While this used to be the stuff of science fiction or fantasy, modern technology has made it so that robots have entered the modern daily sphere. The Roboquad™ is one such robot.
Manufactured by WowWe, the Roboquad™ is a four-legged robot with a head that moves 360° that uses an infrared beam to survey its surrounding environment. Once it has surveyed its environment, it then responds to the stimuli. For instance, if your Roboquad™ notices you vacuuming your floor—even if you’re in the other room—it will set out after you. Depending on your Roboquad’s™ level of the three A’s (aggression, awareness, and activity), it will move at one of three speeds toward the stimuli, moving around coffee tables and your discarded slippers. Shaking your head in disbelief? Here’s how it works:
It scans its environment: Using 5 different scans (from the “escape walk” to the “flinch response”), the Roboquad™ takes in its environment and then decides how it will respond by the level you have set its 3 A’s at.
The 3 A’s: The three A’s are aggression, awareness, and activity and are settings that you as the owner control manually. These settings change how your Roboquad™ reacts to its environment. So, if you set each at a high setting, you will have a robot that reacts quickly to its environment and chases almost everything. Think of it as a whole new way to torment your roommate after a long day at school!
Modes: Because one of the joys of having a robot is having some control, the Roboquad™ has four modes it can be set in. These are sleep, guard, autonomous, and direct-control. While these are pretty self-explanatory–with direct-control meaning that you manually control every action and autonomous meaning that your Roboquad™ “decides” for itself–sleep mode and guard mode are interesting, as well. In sleep mode, your robot doesn’t respond to any external stimuli and sleeps as only a robot can, soundlessly and without any snoring. In guard mode, your Roboquad™ acts as a mechanical pitbull and alerts you to any noises by making a series of crazy sounds and blinky lights.
Some other fun features include the Roboquad’s™ happy dance, which it does just for fun, and automatic shut-off after twenty-four hours of no stimuli.
Looking for the “pet” of the future that will bring you hours of companionship and amusement? Move over R2D2, the Roboquad™ is in town!
